eTesta 50Hz GPSCAN IMU with Sensor Fusion
Introduction
Our latest CAN based GPS receiver that is much more than simple GPS. It is used for testing trains, tires, cars, rally cars, race motorcycles etc...
Main Features
Supported GPS Systems
50Hz GNSS with GPS+GLONASS+GALILEO+BEIDOU+QZSS systems.
IMU with Sensor Fusion
Sensor fusion is the process of combining data from multiple sensors to produce more accurate, reliable, and comprehensive information than what would be possible using individual sensors alone.
MatLab has a great video showing what Sensor Fusion is and how it works. Check it out to learn more.
Main advantage for Sensor Fusion is redundancy and integration drift can be eliminated. Our Sensor Fusion uses acceleration, IMU and GPS together, magnetometer is not used due to soft and hard iron problems. Vehicle Speed can be also sent from the vehicle to implement Dead Reckoning. With it, location and speed can be determined even without GPS.
Motorcycle and car modes are supported.
Sensor Fusion in Real Life
Below is real data from the device, example how Sensor Fusion can determine the location and speed without GPS.
To demonstrate it, a tunnel is used when there is no GPS. First, speed:
- Yellow: Speed from vehicle, BMW PT-CAN
- Green: GPS Speed without Sensor Fusion, GNSS only
- Blue: Speed from MK2 Sensor Fusion.
- Violet: 2nd GPS
As you can see, MK2 Sensor Fusion speed continues to work, even without GPS and is close to wheel speed. This is without sending the Wheel speed to the MK2 Sensor Fusion.

Above is fairly simple, but things get complicated when Sensor Fusion has to determine the location, without GPS. Below is the same location and same moment as above speed example.
- Blue: Location from GPS, GNSS only.
- Green: MK2 Sensor Fusion track
- Red: Other GPS

The only device that can follow the tunnel is MK2 with Sensor Fusion. Other GPS goes to 0,0 location and MK2 Sensor GNSS only is unable to follow the tunnel.
High resolution graphs
Acceleration Sensor and IMU
Below is data from the same test to demonstrate the acceleration sensor and IMU. MK2 Sensor Fusion can output Gravity-Free acceleration data when the device is in Sensor Fusion state.
- Violet: Gravity-Free acceleration, X Axis.
- Green: Longitudinal acceleration from BWM PT-CAN acceleration sensor
- Blue: Pitch from MK2
- Violet: Roll from MK2

Pitch
Pitch is available from the device as well. In the graph below, GPSCAN MK2 Sensor Fusion is installed into a snow mobile and several accelerations from 0-100 were done. Graph shows the acceleration and the Pitch, front lifting up.

Construction
Lightweight but still strong, made to anodized aluminum casing. Weatherproof since potted.
Other advantage is that the cheap antenna is separate and the receiver itself can be installed into a safe location.
Fast Fix
Waiting for the lights to change in the Christmas tree and GPS doesn't have a fix yet? Waiting is over with our unique Fast Fix feature. See below how much faster is our GPS with Fast Fix.

Compatibility
Compatible with any CAN system, we have DBC file available to make install simple and fast.
MoTeC Compatibility
Plug & Play with all MoTeC devices, M1 ECU, displays, loggers etc...
